Nexus One Filters Out Swear Words

The information may make a few of you happy while disappoint a few others. Nexus One is made to filter any profanity used. That is the speech-to-text recognition option doesn’t allow the user (speaker) to post out any swear words. As an alternative, the device converts those words into a group of #. Which means whenever you type a five lettered swear word, the device will show up your message something like this #####.

The reason for this is that in Android driven gadgets, speech to text recognition is yet not entirely flawless. The system can sometimes misrecognize the spoken word and give back some other word. Which may well cause confusion at the receiving side. And that is why Droid phone too has an identical difficulty (for some).

This is not the first time profanity is being blocked out, Zune HD is also doing the same thing with its twitter application. For those who  do not know what Zune is, it is a MP3 Player from Microsoft and it was first launched in the market in 2006. And just back in Dec, Zune came out with their twitter application which does not permit any swear word used.  This is one reason (including other) why not everybody likes their Twitter app.

Apart from this, among many Nexus functions that do not go down well with users is the four control keys at the lower end of the Nexus phone. Why ? because the buttons work only when top half of it is pressed, and this can be quite irritating. Furthermore, under the sun rays the phone display is not see-able. These are few of those flaws which users who have had hands-on encounter with Nexus informed.

And the no-profanity quality is in a way positive one. Though many of them will dislike Nexus One for being a civilized device. For more details read Nexus One Blocks Swear Word

Nexus One, The Name May Have Been Copied

Google Nexus had set up sensation even before it was released. Prior to its release, the discussion that Google was entering cell cell phone trade was something that didn’t go down properly with all. And just after introduction, the fact that Google Nexus turned out to be as expected and not a lot more than what Google devotees has predicted disappointed individuals. And now after days following the phone’s release, here is yet another problem – Nexus One’s copyright violation.

The name Nexus One is claimed to be copied from Philip K Dicks book ‘Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?’. The author’s daughter has gone to the press accusing Google of taking the name of the cell phone from her father’s book with out consulting them.

If the name is truly copied from the book or not is uncertain. Google definitely will deny the accusation. But the writer’s daughter seems to be unwilling to dissuade and not comply with Google. If the matter gets really serious, they could have to take the legal support. And if Google losses the case, a lump sum amount will have to be given towards the writer’s daughter (A lot could say, the situation is getting raised only to get hold of big money. Like Motorola had to pay to be able to use the name Droid). Google anyway these days is having difficulties from all sides – there is this Apple-Google conflict, Google is soon going to be from iPhone (Bing will be seen on iPhone), touch screen problem with Apple and what not. Looks like Google’s move into mobile phone market is causing a good deal of complications.

Sometime back Google was much like the King within the internet business (it even now tops) but with a lot of issues and dissapointments (with reference to Google Phone), tables may possibly turn really soon.

Let’s see how things go about and who wins.
