The Impressive MyTouch 3G Slide
T-mobile has come out of the gate with a cellular phone intended to replace its aging Sidekick series. The T-Mobile MyTouch 3G Slide leads the family of new MyTouch series cell phones developed by HTC. It has a full QWERTY keyboard, a huge touchscreen, and the Google Android operating system.
The best features of the T-mobile mytouch 3g slide are in the design and hardware. The cellular phone comes with a reusable, strong plastic case instead of the zippered pouch of previous models. It will not earn any awards, though, so most users will still be looking for MyTouch 3G Slide Cases soon after purchase. The Slide is offered in 3 color choices: black, white, and dark red. The cellular phone is shipped with the standard USB/wall charger and a USB data cable. This model also comes with headphones.
The mytouch slide is a bit bigger than its brothers because it houses the full qwerty keyboard. It measures 4.55” long x 2.37” wide x .6” thick. There have been few complaints over the size as customers prefer the easy-to-use keyboard with plenty of space between each key. For the few who do not like the keyboard, the virtual keyboard can be used.
The display on the Slide is 3.4” and features multi-touch functionality. This is a downside, as nearly all Android-based phones have at least a 3.7” display. Though, it’s an increase over the old models of MyTouch 3G cell phone. The upside is that the colors are crisp and clear, and the display is bright enough to view in direct sunlight. A MyTouch Slide screen protector is recommended to keep the display from getting scratched.
Underneath the display are the hardware buttons. The Slide features 4 buttons: Home, Menu, Back, and the new “Genius” button. The right side of the phone also has a camera button, and there is a volume control on the left. The power button and headphone jack (3.5mm) are on the top, whereas the USB cable connects to the bottom.
On the software side, the Slide is run by Android 2.1 with a promise of a free upgrade to 2.2 sometime in the future. The user interface is custom-designed for the phone and is similar to the HTC Sense. The phone is great for using with social networking sites. It automatically updates contact information from the networks and provides a Friend Stream for new status updates and links posted by friends.
The MyModes feature of the phone allows users to customize their homepage for work or for play with all-different widgets, apps, and wallpapers for each. The Genius button, brought up earlier, is used with Android to turn it into a voice-command system. The system is buggy at first, but as it learns your voice, it improves over time.
The phone also features a 5-megapixel camera. The camera works best outdoors. Indoor photos are noisy and dark.
Overall, the performance of the Slide 3G is very impressive. Application lag is at a minimal and internet speed is fast. The price is right, too, at less than $200. This will leave plenty of money for extra myTouch 3G Slide accessories.
August 12 Release For The Blackberry Torch 9800
The newest Research In Motion phone, the Blackberry Torch 9800, can be released on August 12. On Aug. 12, the Blackberry Torch can be released on the AT and T network. Some of the features on the Blackberry Torch 9800 seem like big improvements — but others have reviewers wondering why RIM bothered at all.
What you’ll find in a Blackberry Torch 9800
The Blackberry Torch 9800 maintains numerous of the things that Blackberry phones have become known for. The QWERTY keyboard is housed in a slider-style case. The messaging and web browsing functions are nevertheless solidly in place, though updated. There is a very similar look, feel, size, and weight between the Blackberry Torch and previous models. The security that Blackberry phones have become known for are also in place.
Updates in the Blackberry Torch 9800
The Blackberry Torch 9800 has the new Blackberry 6 operating system. This update consists of features that Blackberry users are asking for. There can be built in messaging and social networking. There is also a new web browser based on WebKit that is reportedly more efficient than other browsers when it comes to data usage. You are able to also customize the phone with developed adds on the pre-loaded Blackberry App Store.
Blackberry Torch 9800 reviews and concerns
Though the Blackberry Torch 9800 integrates many requested updates, RIM may very well find itself still fighting for life in the Smartphone market. No frills interfaces and strong security make the Blackberry popular with government and business customers. RIM seems to be courting more of the consumer market with the Blackberry Torch. The new Blackberry Torch 9800 has a tiny screen with low resolution, though, and an email interface that is reportedly very clunky. These together may prove to be the downfall of this Smartphone maker, even though they really began the Smartphone movement.
The Technology Behond The T-Mobile MyTouch 3G Slide
The myTouch 3G Slide is one of the latest smart phone offerings on the market from the communications and technology giant T-Mobile. The myTouch 3G Slide is equipped with a range of excellent capabilities and features for those seeking an affordable smart phone that doesn’t skip out on all the hottest features. I like my myTouch 3G Slide because it utilizes a full QWERTY keyboard, Google’s Android 2.1 operating system, a a user friendly interface that’s customizable to fit my own personal preference, and the quality of the phone calls I place and receive. And what’s great is that I can even purchase a wide range of MyTouch 3G Slide accessories, such as batteries, cases, and screen protectors.
Let’s talk about the first reason why I like the myTouch 3G Slide: its keyboard. While an increasing number of smart phones on the market have switched to completely button free or virtual keyboards, not every consumer needs or wants a virtual keyboard. For my part, I still like to be able to feel the keys beneath my fingers, and to have that tactile feedback whenever I hit a space bar or a shift key. The myTouch 3G Slide provides this. I like being able to see the keyboard, and I like being able to touch type with that finger feedback. I think I type more quickly than my friends with smart phones with virtual keyboards. I also like the fact that I have the whole entire keyboard availible, opposed to having most of it gone and not being able to register some keys, which is the case with virtual keyboards. And speaking of the screen, it is an impressive one. It’s clear, sharp, and vivid. I’ve looked around and discovered that you can purchase myTouch 3G Slide screen protectors. I have since invested in some, as it’s an easy way to keep my Slide screen looking just the way it did when I first bought it. And beyond the screen, I also looked into myTouch 3G Slide cases to protect the entire body.
Now let us discuss the operating system. More and more smart phones these days have switched from whatever operating systems they used to use to using Google’s Android operating system. I don’t know how well it works on other smart phones, but it works wonderfully on my 3G Slide. I also invested in some extra myTouch 3G Slide batteries, which means I can use my smart phone and Android all day, every day, without worrying about running out of juice. The phone itself fits comfortably in my pocket, and I like being able to slide it open and see that keyboard. Also, something I didn’t know before purchasing the myTouch 3G Slide is that it supports talk to text with Dragon Dictation. That means I can say what I want to text through my phone.
