Finding Local Takeaways Using Your IPhone
Most of us have had the experience of being somewhere unfamiliar, looking for somewhere to eat that won’t result in food poisoning. I had it recently, walking around Nottingham’s streets trying to find a decent Chinese or Indian takeaway.
But if you’re an iPhone owner, then you don’t have to worry about this problem. There’s a plethora of applications available on the App Store that utilise the iPhone’s GPS to find a suitable restaurant based on your location and search preferences.
The Around Me app is an excellent example, and allows you to find banks, restaurants, hotels, supermarkets (basically anything you might need) and then provides you with user reviews, directions and a wealth of other information on your chosen listing.
Another option available to you is to use the 3G streaming on the iPhone to do a Google search while out and about (something that you just couldn’t have done so easily before smartphones). While i was in Nottingham for example i searched for ‘Chinese takeaway Nottingham‘ & ‘Indian Takeaway Nottingham‘ using the iPhones’ built-in web browser (Safari). I immediately found several useful results, most of which allowed me to find a suitable takeaway and then access user reviews, recommendations and directions whilst on the go.
If you can’t get your phone online, you could of course always try a local enquiry line, who should be able to give you suitable recommendations. For example, i called one of these lines and asked for decent Nottingham takeaways and was given relevant and useful information by a local woman within minutes.
So wherever you find yourself, if you’re armed with your iPhone (or any smartphone for that matter), you’ll should be able to find what you’re looking for.
